Fiberglass Reinforcement

Fiberglass reinforcement - PatentStainless composite reinforcement (fiberglass reinforcement) has a range of advantages over the usual metal one. The main advantages are its resistance to corrosion, tensile strength, much lower weight and price.

This type of the reinforcement can be used in temperature range from -70°C to +100°C. Fiberglass reinforcement was developed in 1970s in the USSR; a few objects were built with use of only this type of reinforcement. One of them is a lighthouse in Sochi built about 40 years ago, which still functions without any complaints.

At that moment the main problem was the high price of fiberglass relatively to the metal analogue. Fiberglass reinforcement got its new life these days when the situation became opposite to the one 40 years ago. Metal becomes more and more expensive every year whereas fiberglass becomes more and more affordable and easily accessible. According to the predictions of the analysts composite reinforcement soon will become one of the most popular materials in building/constructon.

Composite reinforcement is intended for the use in concrete constructions with stressed and nontensioned reinforcement instead of the usual metal reinforcement. Advantages of the fiberglass reinforcement enable one to use reinforcement of the smaller diameter relatively to its metal analogue.

Another advantage is its weight: fiberglass reinforcement is 5-9 times lighter than the metal one. Using this fact companies can save money on transportation expenditures. In the European countries this type of reinforcement is widely used in construction of the important objects such as bridges through water canals. It is resistant to the humidity and consequently prolongs the life of such bridge in comparison with a steel construction.

Fiberglass reinforcement is produced with different diameters from 4mm to 40mm for any length specified by client. The main difference of the composite reinforcement produced by the OOO “NPO Stekloplastik” (member of the Group of Companies “Basalt”) is the unique compound developed by our German colleagues. The uniqueness of this compound is in its higher ignition temperature which makes the whole construction with use of our reinforcement, e.g. floor slab, more resistant to the fire.
